What we like:
pros
The quality and effort that goes into building a Phaeton
What we dislike:
cons
The 3.6-litre V6 can feel a little strained next to its newer turbocharged contemporaries. A TSI version would be welcomed

For Phaeton customers, VW's personalisation programme care of its division, R GmbH offers the advantage of also customising their cars with a near endless combination of trim options and special features.

Some cars that Oneshift drove in Sanya for example, came fitted with refrigerator hidden behind the rear centre armrest and was large enough to hold a couple of full-sized champagne bottles.

Cars that were configured as four-seaters had screens mounted on the rear of the front headrests and connectivity for external audio and video sources.

Although prices have yet to be announced, expect the Phaeton to be positioned somewhere in the region of an S-Class or 7 Series which at today's COE prices should be around $300,000.

Given that VW's product line-up is better known for mainstream models like the Golf or Polo, there will be some who can't see themselves paying Mercedes or BMW money for a Volkswagen. Once these folks step inside however, they'll realise that they're not just buying a car but a masterpiece.
