Next week on August 9, the skies will be lit up to celebrate our Nation’s 53rd Birthday! If you haven’t got a seat at the celebrations, don’t fret, you can still watch the fireworks from these 8 locations. We also bring to you cheaper carparks in the area so that you can save your moolahs for the national day celebratory meal thereafter. Should you not want to hustle with the crowd, consider heading over this Saturday for the final preview before the actual celebrations!

1. Marina Barrage

Even though this place is located slightly further away from the float, it still makes a great day out for families with children as you can prepare mats and food for a picnic or fly a kite while waiting for the parade to begin. Do note, however, your view of the fireworks may be partially blocked by the towering Marina Bay Sands so you may want to get to spot 2 in the evening for a better view.

Park at Marina Barrage Carpark

5.01am – 6.00pm: $0.025 per minute for the first 5 hours, $0.05 per minute thereafter

6.01pm to 12.00am: $0.02 per minute

12.01am to 5.00am: $0.05 per minute

2. Gardens By the Bay East

Should you not wish to squeeze with the crowd at Marina Barrage, take the bridge across to the Eastern side of Gardens By the Bay. Here, you’ll be able to have slightly more space. And because it takes more effort to get here, you’ll probably get smaller crowds.

Park at Marina Barrage Carpark (and walk over)

5.01am – 6.00pm: $0.025 per minute for the first 5 hours, $0.05 per minute thereafter

6.01pm to 12.00am: $0.02 per minute

12.01am to 5.00am: $0.05 per minute

3. Marina Bays Sands Boardwalk

The view from the boardwalk, even without the fireworks, is already stunning. You’ll get to view Singapore’s city skyline and even hear the action at the float! There’s bound to be quite a number of people here so get there early if you can! Also, do note that the closest (affordable) carparks are quite a walk away.

Park at Marina Bay Open Carpark

7.00am – 7.00am: $0.80 per 30 minutes

Park at Millennia Walk

$2.20 for the first two hours, $1.10 per hour thereafter

Park at Marina Square

$2.40 for the first two hours, $1.20 per hour for the next two hours, and $1.40 per 30 minutes thereafter

4.  The Lawn @ Marina Bay

Stuck in between Marina Bay Financial Centre and The Sail, this small plot of green grass may often be missed by many. It is used occasionally for recreational activities or events over the weekends and is a good space to “camp”. What’s better, parking is not too over the top if you wish to spend some time here!

Park at Marina Bay Link Mall / Marina Bay Financial Towers

First 4 hours: $3.21

Next subsequent 10mins: $0.30

5. The Promontory

Right in front of The Lawn you’ll find a larger grassy field where carnivals are held. The Promontory is situated diagonally opposite the Floating Platform and you can expect to have a full view of the fireworks! Do note that it may be crowded here so do go prepared with your picnic mats so that you’ll get a place to sit!

6. Merlion Park

The Merlion Park is a great place for many tourists and locals to visit to have a great view of the fireworks. What’s more, you’ll be able to capture the Marina Bay Sands and the Art Science Museum with it! Per-entry parking is a great deal for those who intend to stay from the afternoon till night and do ensure that you’re there early as this place can get pretty crowded!

7.01am – 12.00am: $5 per entry

12.01am – 7.00am: $7 per entry

7. Esplanade Waterfront Promenade

Located right outside the esplanade, you are really close to the action at the float and definitely will be able to catch the fireworks if you’re not afraid of the crowds. Otherwise, head up to the rooftop of the Esplanade to get the same view.

Park at Marina Square

$2.40 for the first two hours, $1.20 per hour for the next two hours, and $1.40 per 30 minutes thereafter

Unbeknownst to many (yet), after the renovations of the mall, the new extension boasts a splendid rooftop area where you can head to for a better view of the fireworks. Because it is at the top of the mall, you can easily tabao Macdonalds as you enjoy the celebrations with your family or friends.

$2.40 for the first two hours, $1.20 per hour for the next two hours, and $1.40 per 30 minutes thereafter

With that, we hope that this article grants you some inspiration where you can head to watch the fireworks, along with cheaper parking in the area.

Pro tip: If you plan your day well and reach after 6pm, you’ll also be able to get per entry rates for some of the nearby malls (Hint! Suntec City Mall charges $2.80 per entry after 6pm).

Here’s wishing you a HAPPY NATIONAL DAY from all of us at Oneshift.com!
