McLaren has gone back to its roots - and brought a manual gearbox with it!

Revealed at the 2026 Monterey Car Week, the McL 6GT is a new supercar inspired by the M6GT, Bruce McLaren’s unfinished road-car dream.

The big news? It gets a V8, rear-wheel drive and a manual transmission, making it McLaren’s first manual since the legendary F1 in 1992.

The focus is firmly on driver involvement. Hydraulic steering, physical controls, machined aluminium switches and a deliberately tactile gear lever are designed to make every input feel mechanical and rewarding.

The gearstick even features a three-dimensional Speedy Kiwi, one of McLaren’s earliest logos, while other subtle details throughout the cabin reference the brand’s history.

The styling also draws heavily from the original M6GT and 1960s racing cars, with a low, wide stance, low nose, flowing roofline and distinctive Kammback rear.

Its “Racing Loop” rear-light motif is another nod to the original, while Bruce McLaren’s signature and other heritage details are incorporated into the car.

Underneath, McLaren’s lightweight philosophy continues with a full carbonfibre monocoque and carbonfibre bodywork. Exposed carbonfibre is also used inside, reinforcing the car’s performance-focused character.

And this isn't just a styling exercise. McLaren says a production version is planned for 2028, creating a new, highly exclusive type of supercar positioned beyond its core portfolio.
