The highly anticipated new Jetta is here!

The new Jetta shares little with the Mk VI Golf on the outside other than the contemporary Volkswagen corporate face. The new car is bigger and looks more upmarket than the outgoing model.

Its more generous exterior dimensions mean that the new Jetta is more spacious on the inside than ever before. The new Jetta also offers its own unique dashboard and driving environment when compared to the Golf's. Ever present are the renowned build quality and perceived luxury levels that has been associated with Volkswagen models in recent times.

Three variants of the new model will be offered - Jetta 1.4 TSI with 122bhp at $107,800, Jetta 1.4 TSI Comfort 122bhp at $113,800 and the 160bhp Jetta Sport 1.4 TSI at $124,300. The base model can be distinguished by the standard Sedona 16-inch alloys while the better equipped Comfort model comes with ‘Navarra' style 16-inch alloys as well as extra kit like storage pockets on the front seatbacks, 8-way adjustment for the front seats, leather trim on the steering wheel, gearshift grip and parking brake lever. Other niceties on the Comfort model includes cruise control, a multi-function steering wheel, automatic headlamps, rain sensor and electrically retractable mirrors. The twincharged Jetta Sport comes with 16-inch Atlanta alloys, the familiar RNS510 navigation head unit and KESSY keyless entry and start system in addition to the extra kit offered by the 1.4 TSI Comfort model.

Volkswagen has also announced that Mediacorp star Pierre Png will be Jetta ambassador. Pierre will take delivery of a Jetta Sport 1.4 TSI soon. He will be involved in customer events and marketing activities related to the new Jetta.

Judging by the crowds at the Volkswagen showroom since the Jetta's launch, response has been overwhelming. The Jetta could well be the new king of Cat A saloons.
