TomTom GO 2050 World GPS Unit
With all the GPS Apps being made availabe on iOS and Android, it is of little wonder why there are talk of stand alone GPS Units being superceded by smartphones. Still there are some things a GPS Unit, such as the TomTom GO 2050, can provide a lot more than what a smartphone can feature wise.

As the saying goes "Jack of all trades is master of none" holds true when the phone can easily hang if there's too many processes running behind the scene in the phone. Because the 2050 is made for one purpose only, its recalculation of routes is quick and fairly accurately and there was no freezing or hanging at all, which is much safer than having to stop the car by the side of the road to restart the unit. It is certainly not just a GPS unit as it is able to link up to your phone via Bluetooth and help to take or make your call and read out messages too if one wish to do so.
So how about finding destinations? For Singapore roads, the fastest way is to use the postal codes and finding a position lock took a very short time as compared to smartphones. It is also not a laggard when calculating possible routes from start to finish and even warn you if the trip would be incurring toll charges. Perhaps the only bump I have encountered was to find a place located in Malaysia while I was in Singapore. It was a hassle having to specify the country map first before putting in the address and I was lost for a while until I saw a small country button at the top right hand corner.
The user interface is by far one of the easiest I have used in a long time. Perhaps for some, there is some getting used to but once trained, getting around the menu is not that difficult really. Furthermore those who are already using Smartphones will find that navigating through the unit is a breeze The buttons and keyboard layout is fairly huge so those with pudgy fingers would not be inconvenienced as well.
For those who have a penchant for beautiful voices, the TomTom 2050 is truly international with 46 spoken navigation languages, surely there's one for the liking. Even the English language, it had in store 5 accents to choose from such as American, British, Australian, New Zealand and even Irish. If you are into Chinese Dialects, there is even Kek Dialect for those who wish to brush up before Chinese New Year.
To get the latest updates is also made fairly easy. Just go logon to "tomtom.com/getstarted", follow instructions to download the linking software and the software will download and install into the GPS unit with the latest information for your map. However there are no user based maps that can be installed which may be the deal breaker for some.
The TomTom GO 2050 World is a joy to use. It was fairly easy to install it, update it and most important of all, easy to navigate around with.
