The season finale of the 2012 AutoInc Singapore Karting Championship (SKC) came to a successful close today with Javier Chng (Cadet), Amin Noorzilan (Junior), Randall Ng (Senior), Kenneth John Smith (Master) and Duncan Nursey (Veteran) clinching the titles for the season. In the Yamaha SL Invitation Challenge, it was Malaysian racer Melvin Moh who took home the trophy.

Drivers compete over a challenging 935-metre-long circuit, where the results of each race will be combined to determine the overall winners of the championship. Said Randall of BMS Racing, who won the title in the Senior category, “I am very happy to have won my first title at the Singapore Karting Championship, I did not expect to win, so I am very excited to have done well at today’s race.”

For the first time in Singapore, local drivers were given a chance to compete against top karters from Japan such as Hiroyuki Saka and Kensuke Okamoto from Team Tigre. While Malaysian Melvin Moh of RL Karting clinched the top position in the race, it was local boy Thaddeus Lee of AutoInc Racing who gave the crowd something to cheer for by coming in second position. “I am very happy to have come in second, this race is very competitive and I made some mistakes at the start, so this is a very good result for me,” said the 17-year-old student.

“This year has been phenomenal for SKC, thanks to our sponsors and partners,” said Singapore Karting Championship Ambassador, Yuey Tan, Singaporean race driver at the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia racing series. “We have huge plans for our season next year to make SKC bigger and better.”

Spectators around the world tuned in this weekend as the SKC action and commentary was aired live on YouTube, the result of a partnership with ViewQuest, a fibre broadband provider in Singapore.
