China: Man hires trio to wreck Maserati at Qingdao Auto Show

A man in China hired a trio of men to batter his Maserati Quattroporte. This display of outrage comes after the man was displeased with the car dealer which he got the car from. The car, which was worth almost half a million dollars, was hammered with sledgehammers. The end result? A ‘slightly’ bruised body and smashed windows.  The owner of the Quattroporte , identified only as Wang, chose to destroy the luxury vehicle at the Qingdao International Auto Show on Tuesday. He claimed that the dealer replaced malfunctioning parts in his vehicle with used parts. He also accuses the dealer and his insurance company of fraud. By destroying the Italian sports saloon in front of an international crowd during the motor show, he aimed to send a strong message across to the foreign manufacturers-the Chinese consumer should have the rights to receive the same treatment as consumers from elsewhere around the world.

This is not the first time a Chinese consumer has vented his frustrations on his high-end vehicle. In 2011, a Qingdao businessman named Han Nan destroyed his Gallardo after he was appalled by the fact that a mechanic couldn't fix an engine problem. The Gallardo was smashed in front of a crowd on World Consumer Rights Day.
