ERP rates will increase as part of the government's initiative to ease traffic congestion. For a start, ERP charges will be increased from 50 cents to $1 dollar in stages starting July.

16 new gantries will also be activated or erected around Singapore during the course of the year.

The gantries at Upper Bukit Timah Road, Toa Payoh Lorong 6, Upper Boon Keng Road, Geylang Bahru Road and Kallang Bahru Road will be switched on April 7th.

Five new gantries will run along the region of the Singapore River - from Clemenceau Avenue to Fullerton Road - at Eu Tong Sen Street, New Bridge Road, South Bridge Road and Fullerton Road during the middle of the year.

On November 3, six new gantries will come up - at Commonwealth Avenue, Jalan Bukit Merah, Alexandra Road, AYE (westbound) and PIE (westbound) near Eunos and Serangoon Road.

However, ARF will be revised downwards to 100% and road tax will be reduced by another 15% to make ownership of cars more affordable.
