F1: Marussia and Caterham to miss 2 races
Marussia will join Caterham in sitting out 2 races, Texas and Brazil, and it marks the second time that the grid will not be filled in an American Grand Prix (last one being the 2005 USGP). Both backmarker teams have been struggling with financial issues. Whilst the Caterham team has gone into bankruptcy administration, Marussia isn’t that far off sailing down the same path as well. Since the F1 circus sails to Brazil from Texas, there is a high chance that both teams will miss out on the 2 races. By regulation, should there be less than 20 cars, the top teams will have to run a third car, although it has been ruled out for this season for teams have to have at least a 60 day notice prior to actually running it. Despite being in F1 for over half a decade, only Marussia has clinched several points; Bianchi finished 9th to secure 2 points in Monaco. Caterham has yet to score a point.Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
