F1: Sauber sued by former F1 Driver
It is not unheard of in Formula One for teams to switch drivers from season to season. This is especially true for smaller teams, as they scramble to pick up drivers with large sums of sponsorship money behind them. However, not all drivers are willing to accept their dismissal without a fight, especially when the initial contracts have already been signed. We are talking about Sauber and Giedo van der Garde here. Giedo van der Garde initially drove for Caterham in 2013, but was ditched for 2014. He then found a seat as a test driver in Sauber. He now claims that he was promoted to the race seat for 2015, and even said the team has signed a contract, but broke it to hire the services of Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr. As such, he has taken the Swiss team to court, first in the team’s native Switzerland, and then to Australian courts, as Australia will play host to the first race of 2015. He hopes that the courts uphold his contract and force team put him in the race seat for the Australian Grand Prix, a decision the team believes is dangerous, for he has yet to test the 2015 Sauber challenger. Whilst the original ruling was to be released on Monday, delays have meant that they will only be out on Wednesday, which will give the parties only 2 days to sort out issues before the race weekend.Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
