Ford Fusion gets a 1.5 Liter EcoBoost Engine

After creating an award-winning three cylinder 1.0 liter EcoBoost engine, Ford will now release a 1.5 liter EcoBoost engine that packs an astonishing 178 horsepowers. The new engine is set to debut in the 2014 Ford Fusion.  It will be paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.  Thus unit mixes direct injection with turbo charging, independent variable cam-shaft timing, aluminum block and cylinder heads.

The engine has a peak torque of 240Nm or 177lb-ft, from 1500rpm. The low-end torques is important in an EcoBoost engine, as it is part of the reason why they are so economical. The new 1.5 liter unit will replace the 1.6 liter unit in the current Fusion range.
