Local News: The new Volkswagen Polo hatches in Singapore
Volkswagen launched the new generation Polo here today, just over six months after the new supermini made its debut in Europe.
Styling wise, the new Polo is endowed with the brand's latest styling DNA. The new hatchback is longer and wider than its predecessor. As expected, the Polo offers a cabin that is high in the build quality department.
For now, the only engine option available is a tweaked version of the previous car's 1.4-litre four-pot. Output numbers are 85bhp at 5000rpm and 132Nm at 3800rpm. A 1.2-litre turbo option will be available late in 2010.
mated to the engine is a seven-speed DSG twin clutch gearbox - the first time such a transmission is offered in the class. The 1.4 Polo will accelerate to 100km/h from rest in 11.9 seconds with top speed rated at 177km/h.
Volkswagen Centre Singapore will be organising a host of activities and events to herald the polo's arrival this weekend. Visitors to the showroom can expect complimentary German pastries to feast on, take a gyrotron challenge and so on.
