McLaren Automotive has announced that it plans to compete at the top level of the sports car market with a range of premium, high power, highly efficient, lightweight, luxurious, carbon-based cars. The first in that range of exclusive cars will be the McLaren MP4-12C, and Wearnes Automotive will begin selling the 12C from late 2011, with a first year production of up to 1,000 cars. The Singapore market is expected to be one of McLaren Automotive’s key markets in the Asia-Pacific region. Globally, initial interest in the much anticipated 12C has already exceeded the first year’s allocation, with over 3,000 potential customers expressing an interest in buying the12C.

Ian Gorsuch, McLaren Automotive’s Regional Director for the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific, said: “I am pleased to announce the new partnership between McLaren Automotive and our representative in Singapore, Wearnes Automotive. They are among the best car retailers in the region - if not the best. Singapore is a key and high potential market for us.

“According to the Boston Consulting Group’s Global Wealth 2010 Report, Singapore has the highest percentage of millionaire households in the world at 11.4%. The country has emerged from the recession and rebounded in a big way. Its GDP, exports and manufacturing are all rising, and have led Singapore to create the highest concentration of millionaires anywhere on the planet.”
Gorsuch continued, “At McLaren Automotive, we believe that by combining quality and innovation, we can offer a unique product range of ‘pure’ McLarens. The icing on the cake will be the highest standards of customer care as we are well aware that a great ownership experience is as valuable as great driving enjoyment. By joining forces with Wearnes Automotive, whose sound experience and reputation in the Singapore car market has proved highly attractive to us, we will ensure our customers receive the very best on both fronts.”

Andre Roy, Group Managing Director – Wearnes Automotive: “We are very pleased and honoured to be officially confirmed as the Singapore dealer for McLaren – a much coveted brand legendary for its high performance sports and racing cars. This appointment marks the start of a great partnership of two motoring companies aligned in passion-driven ethos and sharing a common commitment to high quality and cutting-edge innovation.

“Wearnes Automotive has been representing renowned automotive brands in Singapore since 1906. Our century-old heritage, expertise in retailing prestige models and continuous pursuit towards customer excellence strongly complement McLaren Automotive’s plans to present elite customers with ground-breaking masterpieces.

“The launch of the 12C is highly-anticipated in Singapore and we are confident of great success as we have already received indications of purchase interest from eager customers. Wearnes Automotive are working towards the allocation and are aware that there will be a waiting list.”

Wearnes Automotive will join an initial global network of 35 partners in 2011 who will be responsible for selling an initial annual production run of up to 1,000 12Cs, ensuring exclusivity and a new driving experience for owners. Subsequently, as McLaren Automotive moves to a full model range of high-performance, two-seat, mid- engine sports cars by the middle of the decade, the aim is to produce around 4,000 units annually from a brand new manufacturing facility, the McLaren Production Centre.
