MINI John Cooper Works GP - Extra SIAO MINI Now In Singapore

(Extreme) MINI fans can now rejoice! The extra mental MINI John Cooper Works GP, is now available in Singapore. Based on the 3-door hatch, the GP packs more wallop, producing 306hp, 75hp above the vanilla John Cooper Works model, and 450Nm, from its turbocharged 2.0, allowing you to clock 100km/h in 5.2 seconds.

The new GP is equipped with a unique engine oil sump with added volume, and features a distinctive geometry, for a reliable supply of oil; all of this geared towards ensuring optimum delivery, to cope with the rigours of extreme sporty driving, which involves high levels of longitudinal and lateral acceleration. Drive to the front wheels is via an 8-speed Steptronic transmission, which is equipped with an integrated mechanical differential lock.

While getting your meat and veggies can now be quicker, the GP, like the previous car, is strictly a 2-seater, with rear seat space sacrificed for some added beefy stiffness. Brakes have also been uprated, and are designed to take a beating on the track. Front brake calipers are built from lightweight aluminium, further reducing the GP’s unsprung weight, and are combined with 360 × 30mm ventilated discs. Grip is provided via 225/35 R18 tyres.

The new GP is also lighter, and sports additional aerodynamic aids, like its unique wind-straightening wheel arches, made with a thermoplastic inner, and an outer shell built from strong lightweight carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP); a first by the BMW Group. Sound deadening materials have also been reduced, in order to shave off weight.

Proof in the pudding was when drivers punched the GP around the famed Nordschleife at Nürburgring in less than eight minutes – almost half a minute faster than its direct predecessor.

Within the cockpit, there are exclusive-to-GP features, like its 3D-printed metal shift pedals, and soft nappa leather wrapped steering wheel rim, with a 12 o’clock metal centre marker.

With only 3,000 to be produced, the MINI John Cooper Works GP would could be that one very special track-proven pocket rocket for your lot.
