Motor-East And Lion City Rentals Plan 200 BYD Vehicles For PHV Drivers
Motor-East will handle vehicle supply and aftersales support alongside Lion City Rentals' fleet operations, with PHV drivers among the intended beneficiaries.
Singapore's private-hire drivers could soon have more BYD models to choose from. Motor-East and Lion City Rentals have signed an MOU covering the planned supply and deployment of 200 vehicles in 2026.
The proposed fleet will comprise fully electric cars and DM-i plug-in hybrids. The collaboration also includes driver familiarisation, servicing arrangements and aftersales support.
Two models in the spotlight are the BYD SEAL 6 DM-i sedan and Touring. Both combine electric driving with petrol power, with a claimed combined range of up to 1,505 km and fuel consumption as low as 1.5 litres per 100 km. The wagon offers up to 500 litres of boot capacity.
The partnership comes as BYD continues to grow its Singapore presence. The brand recorded 11,184 new registrations in 2025 - that’s about 21.2% of all new cars registered that year, based on LTA figures.
The initiative also aligns with Singapore's Green Plan 2030 target for all new car and taxi registrations to be cleaner-energy models from 2030.
