New Peugeot Taxis on the Road?

Set to become the next of many faces in the Yellow Top Taxi empire, the Peugeot Partner taxi seems to be the logical choice.

Powered by a 1.6-litre HDi (High-pressure Direct Injection) turbo diesel that produces 90bhp at 4000rpm, and 215Nm of torque at 1750rpm, those of you who think Taxis aren’t powerful better watch out for this one.

Peugeot rates their HDi at 18.5km per litre (EEC) on the combined cycle.

One of the few diesel vehicles in the market that complies with the stringent Euro 4 emissions, Peugeot claims that this is one of the cleanest diesel engines to be produced.

As far as being a Taxi is concerned, the interior can be configured to suit the number of passengers and the amount of cargo, simply by folding the 60/40 split rear seats, yielding a total storage capacity of 2,800 litres.

The 624 litre boot capacity also makes it a good airport or furniture store shuttle.

The van-like sliding doors also make the Partner a convenient tool for the disabled & wheelchair bound.

6 Partners will hit the roads by end July or early August. Deliveries to Yellow Top are on schedule. The Peugeot Partner is amongst the many other brands that the Yellow Top taxi company has bought, one of them being the Toyota Hilux 3 litre turbodiesel double cab pickup truck, Fiat Doblo and Fiat Chroma.

By the way, just in case you racer boys were interested, this Taxi flies to a limited 160km/h (due to gearing and tyre specifications) and hits 100km/h in a very sedan-like 12.9 seconds. Watch out!
