Singapore cars now require entry permit to get into Johor

Malaysia has impleted the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) system on the 1st of June. The scheme will see Singapore-registered vehicles requiring to pay an RM20 ($6.60) levy to enter Johor. However, as the authorities will be conducting test runs till the 15th of July, the entry fee has been temporarily waved. According to Malaysian officials, more than 120,000 owners of Singapore-registered vehicles have registered for the VEP. To enforce the scheme, all vehicle lanes at both checkpoints have been fitted with license plate reading cameras and sensors. RFID tags would also be issue to registered vehicles to help identify them. The system was initially scheduled to be lived on the 1st of August last year. However, due to technical issues, the launch was continuously delayed.
