Singapore Welcomes New BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, 7-Seater Option Not Available

BMW Asia and Performance Motors Limited has launched the second-gen BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, a sporty all-rounder for the premium compact segment. The first-gen was often labeled “un-BMW” when it was launched in 2014 as it was BMW’s first front-wheel drive vehicle that mimicked the recipe of its BMW Group sibling MINI, but healthy sales figures suggested that BMW made the right move.

Right from the get-go you can tell that this latest generation will be very different from its predecessor. BMW claims that it has taken a “progressive approach” towards the Active Tourer, including a redesigned interior that combines a variety of usage possibilities with modern geometry and a BMW Curved Display in the style of the fully electric BMW iX.

At the front end of the car, you will be greeted by Adaptive LED Headlights with cornering light function that now comes as standard. The newly designed door shoulders around the A-pillars create much improved all-round visibility and also a less “boxy”, more sleek silhouette than its predecessor. 18-inch wheels are fitted as standard, with 19-inchers as an option. The 218i Active Tourer Luxury Line will cost S$220,888 with COE, while we have to wait for the pricing of the M Sport variant that includes frequency-selective damping, sport steering and a 15mm drop in ride height.

As mentioned, the cabin geometry of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer now takes its cues from the interior concept of the BMW iX. A slim instrument panel, “floating” armrest with integrated control panel and an across-the-board reduction in the number of physical control elements suggest that this interior is future-proof.

Perhaps the most striking “deletion” will be the lack of third row seats, so larger families need to look elsewhere for compact MPV options like the Volkswagen Touran. If this is not an issue, the driver and a maximum of four occupants will enjoy newly developed, multi-adjustable perforated seats and an array of storage areas. With the rear backrests in their cargo position, boot capacity increases by as much as 90 litres. The rear seats can also slide forward by up to 13cm, along with a split/folding 40:20:40 configuration. Boot capacity is 470 –1,455 litres while the automatic tailgate operation comes as standard.

Fitted as standard are four USB-C ports and a 12V power socket in both the centre console and the boot, two-zone automatic climate control, a leather steering wheel, rain sensor with windscreen wiper control and automatic headlight activation. Standard safety features include Cruise Control with brake function, Parking Assistant, Reversing Assist Camera and Reversing Assistant.

The new BMW iDrive also made its debut in the premium compact segment. It is based on BMW’s Operating System 8, and links up as standard with the BMW Curved Display formed by a 10.25-inch information display and a control display with a screen diagonal of 10.7 inches.

If you are in the market for a pre-owned 2 Series Active Tourer, you might even find a diesel option tempting. If 7 seats are a must, this low-mileage unit might suit you.
