Singapore's very own Back to the Future

Singapore's very own Back to the Future

Fans of Back to the Future, you’re reading right. Except it’s not DeLorean; it’s Audi this time. Audi Singapore has taken a leaf from the Back to the Future franchise and decided that they’ll bring Singaporeans back in time to 1965, when Singapore was newly independent.

Audi has come up with a really fanciful idea for the nation’s 50th birthday, where they have plans to allow members of the public to see what Singapore was like in the 60s around the Civic District. As Singaporeans know, the Padang and City Hall area has some of the most iconic buildings and sights from that historically significant period of time.

For the pioneer generation (yes pioneers will be able to experience this too, actually so will anyone really), they’ll be able to relive the memories of those years, and see the same sights they saw in person many decades ago. It’s an all immersive experience too, and everyone young and old will be wowed and dazzled by the scene recreations by Audi.

How have Audi done this? It’s quite cool actually. Basically, what will happen is you’ll sit in an Audi A6 and get chauffeured around the Padang area but instead of seeing the sights that exist today; you’ll wear an ocular device that is really just a smartphone viewed through some lenses that will display a recreation of the 1965 scene of the same area. This includes icons like the old Supreme Court and the Singapore River. The device is GPS tagged and moves in real time with your head, so wherever you look you’ll see geologically accurate 1965 scenes.

You’ll also get your very own tour guide; local celebrity Dick Lee will narrate the sights and introduce you to 1965’s Singapore. For our pioneers, a walk back in their shoes of those years will surely bring back vivid memories. Only this time, they’ll get to see those memories once more.

Stay tuned to find out more details and dates for this exciting event from Audi. We’ll bring you the latest buzz from Audi when it hits us and you can definitely look forward to something altogether novel and exciting, as Audi takes you through a drive back in time.
