But those who want a X5 with storming performance and race car handling will find that the new X5 M might just be not too far away in performance to the X5 Le Mans even though the latter's 700bhp V12 has 145 Bavarian horses more than the X5 M's V8 can muster.


Back in 2000, a group of enthusiast engineers at BMW decided to shoehorn a V12 lump from the Le Mans winning V12 LMR race car into an X5. Their objective was to find out the dynamic limits of the X5. The X5 Le Mans, as it was called, was a one off car that German race legend eventually used to set a Nurburgring record time in.

But those who want a X5 with storming performance and race car handling will find that the new X5 M might just be not too far away in performance to the X5 Le Mans even though the latter’s 700bhp V12 has 145 Bavarian horses more than the X5 M’s V8 can muster.
On the outside, the hot X5 M can be differentiated from lesser X5 models via several noticeable features. These include the 20-inch double spoke alloy wheels, aggressive looking front bumper with those massive air intakes to cool the engine and the turbochargers’ intercooler, blacked out double kidney grille, tinted headlamp surrounds, sizable side skirts, blistered front wings with M style air vents, rear wheelarch extensions, rear bumper with an underfloor diffuser design and signature M quad exhaust tips, subtle lip spoiler on tailgate, a X5 M badge at the rear as well as....
