Subaru Outback MY10 2.5i Review: Mixed up
Subaru introduces their updated Outback, this time around promising a much smoother drive with their new 6-speed CVT. Will this work at attracting family men, or will this cause fans to grimace? Well, The Ed says...

Subaru's attempt at refreshing the Outback is a thoughtful one, but it's a pity much thought wasn't given to its face. Thankfully, it still retains that macho stance - good especially for buyers who are torn between getting an MPV and an SUV. Well it has a spacious and practical cabin, plus the boot space is definitely bigger than your usual MPV.
While the lump's refinement is much welcomed, I still question the employment of the CVT - suddenly, it doesn't drive like a Subaru anymore... It just lacks the sporting character we've all associated the brand with.
Why should you buy this car then? Well, if your particular household has (a) multiple drivers (that includes the wife, her parents or your parents), (b) they always love the idea of driving a big and smooth car and (c) don't really care much about technicalities, then the Outback is the one. The missus will love the roominess when she needs all the space to put in the groceries and kid's bags, and the folks will appreciate the driving position and the jerk-free drive.
Oh, and visiting relatives' plantations up North will be less of a worry...
