Maserati presents the new GranTurismo, marking a new chapter in a story that began 75 years ago with the Maserati A6 1500. The GranTurismo combines the high performance typical of a sports car with comfort suitable for long distances, and is the first car in the brand’s history to adopt a 100% electric powertrain. Here are 6 facts we need to know about this sporty grand tourer:

1) The first two models of the GranTurismo lineup is driven by a “traditional” V6 engine, available in two versions: the Modena, with a 490bhp 3.0-litre V6 twin turbo, and a high-performance Trofeo version based on the same engine, tuned to 550bhp. So long, V8!

2) The third member of the GranTurismo family, Folgore, adopts a 100% electric battery-based powertrain derived from Formula E technology, powered by three 300kW motors - good for approximately 760bhp wheel horsepower and a 0-100km/h sprint of 2.7 seconds - 0.2 seconds faster than Ferrari’s 296 GTB and McLaren’s Artura.

3) All eyes will be on the 92.5 kWh Folgore EV, and understandably so. It is the brand’s first full EV. Maserati has avoided placing battery modules of the Folgore under the seats, lowering the car’s H-point for optimal weight distribution.

4) Homologated weights of Modena and Trofeo are identical at 1,795kg, while the Folgore weighs 2,260kg. Folgore might be heavier than its siblings, but engineers have managed to shell out an equal 50/50 weight distribution, compared to the Modena and Trofeo’s slightly front-biased 52/48.

5) No V8? No problem according to Maserati. The GranTurismo offers an “all-round sound experience”, guaranteed by the signature sound of the Maserati engine, even in the electric version thanks to work by engineers at the Maserati Innovation Lab. The audio system offers two levels of customisation, giving it up to 19 speakers and 3D sound with an output of up to 1,195 Watts.

6) Developed at the Maserati Innovation Lab and produced at the Mirafiori manufacturing hub in Turin, the GranTurismo is 100% made in Italy and epitomises “Italian luxury performance”, a concept typical of all Maserati models.
