In an interview with Auto Motor & Sport, Alfa Romeo CEO Luca de Meo confirms that Alfa is readying an SUV for the Italian marque. Because if Alfa Romeo wants to be a global player rather than a Euro-brand, they need an SUV in the line-up.

The entire Alfa range will see some changes over the next few years, starting with this year's Mi.To, to be followed in 2009 by a new 147. And then in 2010, Alfa Romeo hopes to launch their first SUV, internally referred to as CX-over. The new SUV could be based on the 2003 Kamal Concept.

Furthermore, the Italian marque wants to start offering a start-stop-system by 2009/2010 to appease the green lobby, but Luca de Meo said that Alfa will not become a Eco-brand. Alfa may leech some hybrid technologies from mother company Fiat in the future.
