The Daimler Art Collection, Stuttgart/Berlin, Daimler South East Asia and the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) jointly presented the exhibition Is it tomorrow yet? Highlights from the Daimler Art Collection (1926-2006), which ended March 1 with outstanding success.

It was the first comprehensive overview of western influenced abstract art in dialog with contemporary international art ever shown in Singapore.

Around 130 art pieces were featured, including the main works of renowned artists such as Josef Albers, Michael Heizer, Nam June Paik, Sylvie Fleury and Andy Warhol as well as young and upcoming artists such as Shilpa Gupta, Ayumi Minemura and Marcellus L.

The exhibition guided visitors through 8 main galleries at the museum, featuring classic modern Southwest-German artists to contemporary art: Students of Adolf Hoezel at Stuttgart around 1910, Bauhaus, Concrete Art and Constructivism, European and American Minimalism (1945-1970) and representatives of Neo Geo, automobile-related art and European Zero Avantgarde around 1960, as well as theme specific galleries of Readymade and international Media Art.

An important part of the world tour is a comprehensive Education Outreach program for children and students. Prior to the exhibition, art historians, teachers and volunteers were educated on the content of the exhibition to enable them to conduct guided educational tours and explanations of the art pieces.

Participating children and students received a workbook titled "The ABC of the Daimler Art Collection" free of charge, as part of Daimler's contribution to art education in Singapore.

The world tour of the Daimler Art Collection started in 2003 in Germany and toured the U.S., South Africa, Japan, Brazil and Spain before Singapore. The exhibition and the connected educational program established itself as an important tool of Daimler's cultural engagement and its local representations. High quality content, creative curation and unique presentation created a long-term impact in the local art scene, thus supporting art education and appreciation to a broad audience.

The next stop of the world tour is planned to be in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 2010.
