Diesels and Hybrids on the go!
Now, we all know that hybrid cars have been in Singapore for a while already, yet we hardly see them on the roads. They are known to provide better mileage and lower emissions, without much negative impact on performance or practicality. However, there isn't much variety for us consumers.

Earlier this year, legislation was changed so that buyers of hybrid vehicles would receive a 40% rebate, up from 20%. But what about diesels?
In Europe, approximately 50% of vehicle sales comprise diesel-powered
engines. They provide more torque, relevant to the usage in mainly urban roads in Singapore, and yet maintain a comparable, if not, cleaner level of emissions. And that means, if there were more new diesel cars here, our air would be less polluted. The question is, why are our taxes on private passenger diesels still as high? Should we agree to pay more for petrol to accelerate less quickly than a diesel would to the next traffic light? Channel News Asia gives us a brief look at where we might be headed.
