F1: Hamilton is 2015 F1 World Champion
Coming into Austin, Hamilton only needed to outscore his rivals, namely Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel by 2 points, and his own teammate, Nico Rosberg, by 7 points to be the 2015 F1 World Champion. The US Grand Prix has had a lot of ups and downs. With heavy storms and a fast approaching hurricane, there were points in the weekend when the race looked set to be cancelled. FP1 went ahead, and teams cautiously went out. FP2 was cancelled due to the bad weather. On Saturday, FP3 went ahead, with the FIA telling the teams that should bad weather continue, FP3 times may end up being used to set the grid. Qualifying was eventually delayed until Sunday, and even so, the weather, bar a couple of minutes towards the end of Q1, did not let up. Q1 was red flagged 6 minutes in, when Carlos Sainz Jr. took too much curb, and aquaplaned into the barrier. Towards the end though, the weather did get better, and the teams could carry on with Q2. Sadly, Q2 would be the last session, as the weather did get worse. Rosberg was the fastest, and Hamilton was 2nd. Hamilton started very aggressively, pretty much pushing Rosberg off the racetrack at turn 1. From there, bar a ballsy move from Daniel Ricciardo, Hamilton lead most of the race, and crossed the line in P1, 7 points ahead of Rosberg, thus winning the title. Hamilton joins a select few, which include names such as Schumacher, Prost and Senna, in becoming 3 time world champion. He is also the first British driver to win back-to-back titles.
