Renault and Alonso Deliver for France
Fernando Alonso delivered a crushing home victory for Renault at Magny-Cours to cement his world championship lead at the halfway point of the season.

Alonso broke away from the field early having started from pole position and never looked in any danger of losing his lead.
By the end of the race he had lapped everyone up to third place finisher Michael Schumacher.
Renault's result was the perfect tonic for France, which for the first time in 40 years didn't have a driver in the field.
Kimi Raikkonen drove superbly to finish second having stormed through from 13th on the grid on a two-stop strategy.
For a while it looked as though the McLaren star might be able to chase Alonso for the win but it was clear from half-distance that Alonso had the race under control.
Schumacher took another podium finish but he and Ferrari will be unhappy to have trailed home 70 seconds adrift of the dominant Spaniard.
