This Is Lamborghini's Original Performance Hero
Every Lamborghini SV traces its roots back to one car. Here's why the Miura SV still matters 55 years later.
Mention SV and most enthusiasts will think of the Aventador SV or the wild SVJ. But Lamborghini's iconic Super Veloce badge actually made its debut on the Miura SV back in 1971.
Built as the ultimate version of the Miura, the SV represented everything Lamborghini had learned from its groundbreaking V12 supercar. It wasn't just about adding power - it was a complete overhaul aimed at making the car faster, stronger and more rewarding to drive.
Its 3.9-litre naturally aspirated V12 produced 385 hp, enough for a 0-100km/h of under 5.5 seconds and a top speed of around 290 km/h.
Lamborghini also reworked the mechanicals. The engine and gearbox received separate lubrication systems for improved reliability, while a wider rear track, updated suspension and larger brakes gave the SV greater stability and confidence at speed.
The styling evolved too. The Miura's famous headlamp "eyelashes" disappeared, giving the front end a cleaner look, while wider rear arches hinted at the car's increased performance.
Although only around 150 examples were built, the Miura SV left an impact far beyond its production run. It established the Super Veloce philosophy - taking an already special Lamborghini and pushing it to its absolute limit.
More than five decades later, every SV model, from the Murciélago SV to the Aventador SV and SVJ, owes its existence to the Miura SV that started it all.
