Volkswagen’s Smart Fighter in the Pipeline

Volkswagen’s Smart Fighter in the Pipeline

Described as “an economical, everyday small car that looks attractive and is affordable”, it is set to sit under the ranks of VW’s Fox and will target worldwide markets. Mr Winterkorn also added that unlike the Smart fortwo, this will have “space for four people plus luggage.”

Volkswagen, however, is in the process of cutting up to 20,000 jobs, introducing longer working hours at its German plants, and trimming costs. Launched by their previous CEO, Bernd Pischetsrieder, the programme aims to compete against Asian auto-makers and to try and acquire a larger piece of the U.S. market.
