Local News: The new Passat has landed
Volkswagen has launched the new Passat here in Singapore. The new car's profile looks rather familiar as the car has a strong resemblance to its predecessor.

The new Passat though, can immediately be recognised by its new front and rear end styling. Up front, the new model features VW's new corporate face that we've seen on the Golf among other models. The Passat's nose though looks closer to the upcoming Jetta's rather than the Golf's. The rear features new tail lamps and a boot line that reminds us of the Phaeton's.
Biggest news for the new Passat is the addition of more innovative features. These include a fatigue detection system The system detects waning driver concentration and warns the driver witn an acoustic signal.
Volkswagen also claims that the new model is better built with a cabin that offers even more perceived luxury than the car it replaces. According to its maker, the new model is also quieter, safer and more sustainable for the environment. We'll find out how much has the Passat moved forward when we drive it really soon. Look out for the full road test right here.
Powering the base Passat is the same 1.8 TSI 160bhp unit from the previous model. The 1.8 TSI will hit 100km/h from rest in an impressive 8 seconds, helped by the ultra efficient 7-speed DSG gearbox. For petrolheads, Volkswagen also offers a 300bhp 3.6-litre V6 with 4Motion and a six-speed DSG which is basically the same power train as the old model R36's.
1.8 TSI prices start from $159,800 while the V6 retails for $206,800. Lifestyle types can opt for the Variant estate body style at just $5k more over the abovementioned saloon prices.
