The Fit was Japan's Car of the Year in 2001, and also the top selling car in Japan for the year 2002. Also known as the Honda Jazz, only parallel importers bring in the Fit direct from Japan.
Honda designed the Fit to achieve a best in class crash safety rating, and have an air of big car quality. It is also the first car built on Honda's new Global Small Car platform. Weighing less than 1000kg, the Fit is able to achieve a money-saving fuel economy of 23km/litre of petrol. That is also in part due to it i-DSI engine which uses two valves and two spark plugs per cylinder to provide an excellent combination of low speed torque, high performance and economy. The Fit comes with CVT, which means "continuously variable transmission" for a smooth responsive ride.
The Fit's interior includes what Honda calls the magic seat which can be folded in various ways. Combined with a totally flat cargo bay, it provides more opportunities to carry loads of various sizes and shapes. With the seats in five-passenger configuration, there is still excellent cargo space - 380 litres.
Security includes keyless entry, a rolling-code immobiliser and a wave-type ignition key.
Standard equipment includes a single-disc in-dash Compact Disc player, manual air-conditioning, power windows and exterior mirrors, ABS anti-skid braking, and dual front airbags.
